This half-day tour is a relaxed, hands-on introduction to the spices that once made Zanzibar one of the world’s most valuable trading islands. A local guide walks you through a working plantation to see, smell and taste cloves, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and pepper growing in the ground.
It’s a gentle, low-effort morning or afternoon that works well alongside a beach day, and hotel pickup and drop-off anywhere on the island are included.
Hotel pickup anywhere in Zanzibar — Stone Town, Nungwi, Kendwa, Paje or elsewhere — included
Morning session: pickup 8:30–9:00 AM. Afternoon session: pickup 1:30–2:00 PM. Both return within approximately 3.5 hours.
Expect an easy, walkable tour through rows of clove, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg plants, with your guide breaking leaves and bark for you to smell and taste as you go. A local farmer typically demonstrates traditional harvesting techniques, and the visit usually ends with a fresh fruit tasting and the option to buy spices directly from the farm.
